“The Fifth Estate” Languishes on Opening Weekend in UK

While WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is quite the controversial public figure, it seems moviegoers aren’t all that interested in learning more about him.

Over the weekend, “The Fifth Estate” only earned $802,000 at the UK box office according to Rentrak, despite a high profile star in Benedict Cumberbatch.

However, a rep from Rentrak partially blames the disappointing performance on a widespread lack of movie interest as of late. "The box office overall in the U.K. is a bit flat and disappointing. Call it the post-summer lull."

This Friday (October 18th) the flick opens in US theaters, though expectations have been understandably lowered as a result of British figures.
