One Direction Breaks “Today’s” Attendance Record During Morning Concert

One Direction took over the "Today Show" this morning (August 23).

Their loyal fans flooded the streets of the Big Apple, breaking the attendance for the a.m. program's concert series. According to "Today," the New York City Police Department estimated 18,000 fans were present to watch the British boy band.

"It seems to me this is the biggest crowd we've ever had," correspondent Al Roker stated.

Matt Lauer also shared a story about a few fans that have been waiting days to watch the anticipated show. "A mother and two daughters from Queens, New York who got in line six days ago - on Saturday - were named the 'biggest' fans of the day."

During the interview, "Today's" Savannah Guthrie brought up Zayn's engagement and said, "Who just got engaged? I'm just testing the crowd to see if they knew."

Zayn excitedly announced that he is engaged to longtime girlfriend Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards.

"We're really happy! Yeah," he proclaimed.
