Cory Monteith Passes Away in Vancouver

He was only 31 years old and in the prime of both his personal and professional life, but sadly Cory Monteith has died.

According to Vancouver Police Chief Doug LePard, the “Glee” star was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada shortly after 12:00pm local time on Saturday (July 13).

Monteith had checked into his room on July 6th, and when he missed his check-out time on Saturday, the hotel staff entered the room to find his body. Hotel surveillance recorded Cory returning to his room in the early morning hours, and no foul play was observed.

Coroner Lisa LaPointe told press, "We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death. On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith. As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death."

“Glee” costar Dot-Marie Jones tweeted, "I have no words! My heart is broken," while “New Girl” actress Zooey Deschanel posted, “What an absolutely tragic loss of a very talented young man.”

In the past, Cory had alluded to his own struggle with substance abuse and addiction, and earlier this year Monteith entered rehab voluntarily.
