Disney's tale of the man who would become the Wizard took in $11.4 million on Friday, and is on track to rack up $42 million when all is said and done on Sunday.
Sliding into the second spot was the new Halle Berry thriller, "The Call," with a $6.2 million freshman Friday and an expected total take of $16.7 million.
Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings are the Steve Carell-fronted comedy "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" ($11.1 million) in third, the fantasy flick "Jack the Giant Slayer" ($6.8 million) in fourth, and Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman's "Identity Thief" ($4.8 million) in fifth.
