Vanessa Williams Receives Apology From Miss America Organization

It has been 31 years since she was asked to give up her crown as the first African American winner of the Miss America pageant and on Sunday night (September 13) Vanessa Williams finally got the apology she deserves.

The “Saved the Best For Last” songstress stepped down from her throne back in 1984 after Penthouse magazine published nude photos she took years prior.

And last night, Miss America CEO Sam Haskell addressed Williams in front of the audience-

“You have lived your life with grace and dignity. Never was it more evident than during the events of 1984 when you resigned. On behalf of today’s organizations, I want to apologize to you and to your mother… for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less the Miss America you are and Miss America you always will be.” Vanessa replied, “I did the best that I could (during) my reign as Miss America from 1983 to 1984. I love you. I love the girls and I am so honored to be back.”
