Eddie Redmayne Hoping To Turn Golden Globe Success Into Oscar Glory?

Eddie Redmayne has had the "best month" of his life after scooping the Best Actor in a Drama trophy at Sunday night's Golden Globes just weeks after tying the knot with girlfriend of two years Hannah Bagshawe. But it's not over yet, with the Oscar nominations out this Thursday it could be a pretty great ending for Redmayne's month.

The 33 year-old cut his honeymoon short to attend the Globes on Sunday after tying the knot with the publicist just before Christmas, but they didn't seem to mind as Redmayne reached his career pinnacle with a Globe for his role as Stephen Hawking in the acclaimed The Theory of Everything.

He apparently told The Mirror these few weeks were going to be hard to beat: “I'm so ecstatic right now. I've had the best few months of my life."

Explaining that the couple decided to get married on the spur of the moment following their engagement last Summer, Redmayne said: "I got married. We were on holiday and I said to Hannah, ‘;We're getting married, like right now, come on.' So I booked the venue and that was it. It was quick. We are still technically on our honeymoon – winning this is the best end to it.”

It's looking very much likely Eddie will at least get a nomination this week for Best Actor but could Redmayne, who has managed to make the leap from Burberry model to bonafide actor, actually take home the Oscar on February 22?

After his Golden Globes win, which had him pitted against fellow Brit Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie is joint favourite to take home the Oscar alongside Michael Keaton for Birdman. He scooped the gong for Best Actor in a musical or comedy on Sunday, meaning the pair weren't head to head in the same category.

We'll get more of an indication how Hollywood are measuring up the pair when it comes to the SAG and BAFTA awards, though with Keaton's comeback he may have the edge over a sentimental Academy, who love a comeback.

Looks like parts of the US press have already picked their winner - based on Sunday's acceptance speeches. The New York Post have claimed Keaton's speech was better so he'll probably go home with the Oscar as the Academy likes a "moment". Good to see it's about the acting abilities.
