The 87th Annual Academy Awards are almost upon us, and with Neil Patrick Harris set to host the show for the first time, he teased his upcoming gig in a short but sweet promo that was released on Christmas Day.
Kitted out in a tuxedo and jaunty red scarf the How I Met Your Mother star gave any last-minute shoppers some advice, telling them not to bother buying gifts and to just let everyone know that he's hosting the Oscars instead! Nice try Neil, but we'd rather be given something that we can unwrap.
The 41-year-old is no stranger to awards shows having hosted both The Emmy's and The Tony's in the past. But whilst he may be known for his humour, the father-of-two recently revealed that he'll be aiming to retain the level of sophistication usually attributed to the prestigious Academy Awards.

“I want to just make sure that it's a classy event,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I've always loved the Oscars and have great respect for its history, and the gowns, and the classiness of it. And I loved [previous hosts] Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal and honouring the gravity of it without getting heavy and boring. I have no idea how to balance that, but that's going to be the task ahead.”
Neil also revealed that he had big plans for the traditional skits and comedy routines that are peppered throughout the show, explaining that he was going to try and get the most elite A-List stars to help him out. “It's the biggest sandbox in the world,” he said. “If you say, ‘;I think that I should do a thing with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie,' because it's the Oscars, do they say yes? Because they would say no for the Tonys.”
