BBC deny they’ve got insider royal knowledge after reporting Duchess of Cambridge is having a baby boy

The BBC have been forced to deny newsreader Simon McCoy accidentally revealed the sex of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second child, after he fluffed his words during the lunchtime program.

Eight month pregnant Kate will welcome her second child next month, but as with her first child Prince George, hasn't revealed the sex. While reporting on her final engagement before the royal version of maternity leave, McCoy said the visit to the Stephen Lawrence Centre in South London was her last official appearance “before the birth of her second son”.

But a BBC spokeswoman had to quickly clarify that it was a world fluff by McCoy and he wasn't privy to any private information about the second royal baby.

“It was a slip of the tongue – he doesn't know any secrets," they said this afternoon.

Simon also tweeted a denial, writing: “I don't have inside information. On the ‪#BBCNewsatOne I used the words 'second son' instead of 'second child' BY MISTAKE. I AM SORRY!!”

We're not sure how excited McCoy is about the anticipation of reporting on another royal birth. The broadcaster was the BBC's main face at St Mary's hospital when George arrived in July 2013 and didn't exactly hide his boredom as he tried to fill days of rolling coverage of a door as he deadpanned his way through reports.

He was also the legend who picked-up a pack of A4 paper rather than an iPad when delivering the headlines in 2013.

We'll have to wait until the royal offspring pops out to find out if it's another boy for Kate, or whether they'll be a mini-duchess running around and according to Prince William he's looking forward to it.

The Telegraph reported that he told well-wishers today at the visit that the second baby was a "game changer," and he "couldn't wait" for the baby to arrive.

Parl Reardon, 50, told the paper: "William said he couldn't wait for the baby to be born - he said he wanted it now, he couldn't wait another minute."

Whatever she has though, we hope they're like big brother George. The 20 month-old seems like a right handful.
