Well this is a turnout for the books! After Mariah Carey split from her husband of almost seven years Nick Cannon back in August, the comic has only gone and filed for divorce from her, beating the elusive chanteuse to the courthouse.
Since Nick announced their separation, Mariah has remained completely tight-lipped but has remained shrouded in controversy with sketchy vocals and reports of outlandish diva behavior. Most notably in the lead up to the Christmas holidays, when the 44-year-old failed to turn up for a pre-recording of her vocals ahead of her performance at the NBC tree-lighting special.
However, in papers obtained by TMZ, we may now know the truth behind her absence. Papers show that Nick filed for divorce on December 12. Mariah's disastrous NBC performance which ended up going viral took place just the week before on Decmeber 3 when it was reported that Mimi was on the phone to lawyers going over the terms of her property settlement. Thus, it all makes sense that the America's Got Talent host filed the divorce papers the following week.
The divorce will also mean that 34-year-old Nick won't be entitled to any money from his soon-to-be ex wife's lucrative Las Vegas residency. Yesterday it was confirmed that Mariah would be taking over Celine Dion's slot at Sin City's Caesar's Palace, kicking off on May 6.
Spilling all on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Mariah revealed: "It's a new chapter for me and I'm just excited about it.” And with the promise that she'll be leaving tracks from her latest album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse behind to belt her collection of 18 number ones, the megastar vocalist is likely to add some major bucks to her already estimated $510 million net worth.
