Katy Perry ‘Weeping All Day’ Over Super Bowl Gig

She's joining the ranks of Madonna, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen when she plays the halftime show at the Super Bowl next month - and Katy Perry is well aware of how prestigious a gig it is.

The serial chart-topper will play the Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday, February 1 - charging through her biggest hits in a set that's sure to be a massive big-budget spectacle. “I was weeping,” she said of the moment she found out she'd been chosen. “And I was weeping all day, actually. I could kind of well up right now.”

Speaking to NBC's Today, host Willie Geist asked how she's dealing with the pre-show nerves - to which she responded: “Can I be human and say yes, I will be nervous? But I'm going to, kind of, recycle those nerves and make them adrenaline.”

Lenny Kravitz, famed musician and - more recently - the actor playing Cinna in The Hunger Games franchise, is to join Katy as a special guest, and it seems like she's pretty excited to have him; dubbing him “an incredible rock'n'roll icon and guitar god”. Anything's better than Madonna's deployment of that guy with the hair from LMFAO, anyway.

Oh, and after the interview aired, Willie revealed that Katy told him off-camera that the retractable roof will play a part in the gig. So, what, is she going to parachute in like ‘;the Queen' at the Olympics opening ceremony? We can't wait.

Earlier whispers suggested that her hits 'Roar' and 'Firework' will be on the set-list for the performance, but nothing's official yet. Rumours have also emerged proclaiming Taylor Swift will be dissed with a new song called 'She's So Creepy' (no really, Katy, don't hold back) - but we will be happy as long as she LEAVES THE BALLADS ALONE. A quick sing-song of the EntertainmentWise award-winning 'Dark Horse' would be ace, too.
