Ryan Gosling Did Not Turn Down Sexiest Man Alive Title

If there's one man that springs to mind when you think of the words 'sexiest' and 'alive' it's got to be Ryan Gosling right? From the adorable brooding powerful Noah Calhoun in tear-jerker The Notebook, to the suave and charming loveable (topless) rogue Jacob Palmer in Crazy, Stupid, Love and even as the over-protective slightly crazy killer in Drive - fact is Ryan brings the hotness to every film he graces with his stupidly good face and sultry voice. And that "photoshopped" moment. Sigh.

So it may seem pretty viable that the only reason on earth why he hasn't been named as People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive at least three times already is because he doesn't want the title and turned it down. However after rumours circulated claiming just that earlier this week the editorial director of the popular publication has stepped up to say that in fact, they just haven't offered him it. Say what?!

It all started when Thor/Avengers star Chris Hemsworth was announced as People's Sexiest Man Alive for 2014 - the 28th star to be awarded the title - following in the footsteps of recent winners Adam Levine, Channing Tatum and Bradley Cooper. Well actually, it all started with Mel Gibson in 1985, but that's a whole different story. As well as a different era.

We love you Ryan Gosling (WENN)

At the time of the announcement a source claimed to TheWrap.com that in fact Chris wasn't even the first choice and had only been picked because Ryan, 34, didn't want to shed his serious image and pose for a cover shoot. They said: "[The magazine] tried a few times, especially during his huge year in 2011. The consensus was he's too serious for it, too artsy."
But People's editorial director Jess Cagle has denied there is any truth in the rumours. She told E! News: “While I look forward to the day when Ryan Gosling is named Sexiest Man Alive, this was not his year. Our 2014 honoree Chris Hemsworth was our first and only choice. If you want to know why, just look at him. I mean, seriously."

Well that's all well and good and there's no denying how gorgeous Chris is, but seriously some of us are going through Gosling withdrawal right now. We needed this.
