Oxygen’s newest reality series “Preachers of L.A.” hasn’t even officially premiered yet and it’s already sparking controversy within the Christian community.

With a cast comprised of pastors based in Los Angeles — Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Clarence McClendon, Bishop Ron Gibson, Pastor Jay Haizlip, Pastor Wayne Chaney and Pastor/Gospel singer Deitrick Haddon – the show is supposed to give viewers an inside look at how these preachers live when they’re not in church.

The controversial part of the series comes from the fact that it portrays over-the-top preachers living extravagant lifestyles (see: big houses, fancy cars, etc.), and a recent news special done by ABC’s “Dateline” didn’t help much.

Oxygen’s description of the show reads:

“‘Pastors of L.A.’ will give viewers a candid and revealing look at six boldly different and world renowned mega-pastors in Southern California, who are willing to share diverse aspects of their lives, from their work in the community and with their parishioners to the very large and sometimes provocative lives they lead away from the pulpit.”

So to determine whether or not the show is a good thing for Christians, you’ll just have to check it out for yourselves.
