Tom Hanks Plugs “Captain Phillips” at BFI London Film Festival

Kicking off another day of promotional duties, Tom Hanks showed up at a photocall for “Captain Phillips” at the 57th BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday (October 9).

The “Cast Away” star was joined by director Paul Greengrass as he posed for the press at The Mayfair Hotel ahead of the film’s big premiere.

And it sounds like Mr. Hanks will be keeping a close eye on the amount of sugar he puts in his tea while in the UK, as he just announced he’s been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.

Tom told David Letterman, “I went to the doctors and they said, ‘You know those high blood sugar numbers you've been living with since you were 36, well you've graduated, you've got Type 2 Diabetes young man.’”

However, Tom isn’t too concerned about maintaining his health- “Well it's controllable and through diet. My doctor said, ‘If you can weigh what you weighed in high school, you'll essentially be completely healthy and not have type 2 diabetes."
