“Modern Family” Considers a Gay Wedding

Now that the US Supreme Court has struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, the folks over at “Modern Family” could incorporate a gay wedding into the plotline for the new season.

Given that Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson play a homosexual couple on the hit ABC show, the writers have fertile soil for a whole new nuptial tangent.

Creator Christopher Lloyd explained, “It’s a real possibility. It’s certainly something we are contemplating on the show in ways we wouldn’t have in prior seasons."

In May the ACLU issued a petition to ABC demanding that Cam and Mitchell tie the knot. The statement read, "We’re doing this not just because we love Modern Family, but because we are at a watershed moment when the Supreme Court is considering two cases regarding the freedom to marry; when states are passing marriage equality laws with increasing frequency; and a majority of Americans support marriage equality. And the freedom to marry is being advanced in American living rooms as much as in court rooms."

Following the SCOTUS decision, Jesse tweeted "Victory for marriage in California as #Prop8 is struck down. Small but substantial steps toward #MarriageEquality for all.” Stonestreet added, "I'm happy for my gay & lesbian friends. Cheers to gorgeous, wonderful & beautiful weddings, long, happy & fruitful lives and then dying."
