Box Office: “Mama” On Track to Scare Away the Competition

Scaring up some competition, "Mama" is on track to take top spot at the box office for the weekend of January 18-20, 2013.

The Jessica Chastain fronted horror film took in an impressive $10 million on Friday and is on track for a $25.5 million first weekend in theaters.

Sliding in to the second slot is the Academy Award nominated "Zero Dark Thirty." The film about the hunt for terrorist Osama bin Laden garnered a $4.5 million Friday and is expected to take in a $16.3 million weekend haul.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated earnings are the romantic comedy "Silver Linings Playbook" ($10.6 million) in third, the Mark Wahlberg led "Broken City" ($8.3 million) in fourth, followed by Ryan Gosling's mobster flick "Gangster Squad" ($8.9 million) in fifth.
