While visiting the home of the British Ambassador in Washington, D.C., Barbara Walters sustained a minor head injury.

After falling on a stair and cutting open her forehead, the 83-year-old journalist was rushed to the hospital.

According to a rep for ABC, "Out of an abundance of caution, she went to the hospital to have her cut tended to, have a full examination and remains there for observation. Barbara is alert (and telling everyone what to do), which we all take as a very positive sign."

Originally scheduled to contribute to ABC News' coverage of the Inauguration, she will reportedly not be on-air on Monday.
